Read SMART data and temperature through a RAID controller

Can the AIDA64 read smart data through a raid controller?

I'm using Adaptec 5805 and 6805 raid controller, but it cannot read temperature and harddisk SMART data.

But when I use HD Sentinel, it can read it.

Thank you for your help. Sorry for my poor english.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but are there any news on this matter?

I, too, use an Adaptec RAID Controller (3405) and would like to monitor the temperatures of the drives in the array, as well as the RAID controller temperature.

As dejiko stated, HD Sentinel is able to read those temperatures, but I would also like to pass them through to Webtemp via AIDA64's shared memory feature. This can't be done with HD Sentinel.

Thanks in advance!

Zealot

Adaptec RAID support would require us to use Adaptec's own Storarc SDK, which would also require us to bundle an Adaptec-made DLL in the AIDA64 package. That is not something we would normally do, since it may raise a lot of issues that are hard to track down and solve. We'll re-evaluate the Adaptec SDK to see how could we implement RAID support for those products in a future version of AIDA64.

BTW, HD Sentinel also has got multiple data exporting facilities. It can export the data to XML, Registry, and it also has got a proprietary API that you can utilize. Future versions will also implement support for shared memory and WMI, but for the future HD Sentinel roadmap you need to contact the author of that software.

Thank you for the explanation, Fiery, it is much appreciated.

I cannot test HD Sentinel's export functionality at the moment as it seems to be available only in the Pro-Version. Also, I'm not a developer, so the API is of no use to me, unfortunately.

Furthermore, Webtemp would need to be able to import the data provided by HD Sentinel, and I'm afraid it is not. It can read from AIDA64 and some other monitoring tools like SpeedFan, MBM etc. but not from HD Sentinel (see attached screenshot). Also, it seems that it is not actively developed anymore, so I guess it will never be able to do that.

So it looks like I'm reliant on AIDA64. Can you make an estimate on when the the Adaptec SDK will be re-evaluated?

Thanks again and best regards,

Zealot

Here's the first AIDA64 to support RAID member enumeration on Adaptec RAID controllers:

http://www.aida64.com/downloads/latesta64xebeta

Please note that it's not capable of measuring temperature of Adaptec RAID member drives just yet. It should come in the upcoming days though. Until then, please check if your drives properly appear on the Storage / ATA page now, and that you don't see any anomalies or instability while using this AIDA64 beta on your Adapec RAID system.

The beta works flawlessly so far and all of the drives in my RAID-Array appear on the ATA page. Thanks, Fiery! I'm looking forward to the next version :)

Thank you for the feedback. We've implemented RAID SMART support and also RAID controller temperature measurement for Adaptec RAID controllers in the following new AIDA64 Extreme beta update:

http://www.aida64.com/downloads/latesta64xebeta

Let me know how it works on your RAID setup.

FYI, due to numerous reports of very slow AIDA64 startup, since AIDA64 Beta Build 3620, Adaptec RAID support has been disabled by default. You need to enable in AIDA64 / main menu / File / Preferences / Stability / Adaptec RAID support.

Please update Adaptec SDK to 2.xx version. Right now it detect drives but information is not refreshing at all.

In SMART GUI when clicked HDD outside Adaptec it is fine, but when any of Adaptec drives are selected, GUI is not refreshing for any drive Adaptec/NonAdaptec at all.

Thank you, we'll check if we can get ahold of the 2.xx version of the SDK, and update AIDA64.  As soon as we have an update to this issue, I'll post a message into this topic.

Again, I'm reviving this thread :) I just noticed that FAQ No. 30 states that temperature readout is supported for a number of RAID-Controllers, but Adaptec is not included in the list. Since this works for quite some time now, I think it should be included.

Sadly, not all Adaptec controllers are handled properly by AIDA64 at this time.  So it's best not to pretend it supports all Adaptec RAID controllers :)

Thank you Fiery. Just come back after 5 years and it has been supported for a long time.
Actually Adaptec is not a good card, even its boot-up time and status acquire time and more and more, and I'm planning to change to Lsi world this year...
Hope AIDA will support latest Lsi : )

Anyway, Thanks for your help!
