metamucil Posted August 20, 2014 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Hi, first here is my system CPU : AMD FX-8350 @ 4.2ghz Motherboard : ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0 GPU : MSI R9 280x Gaming edition 3GB RAM : ADATA XPG 2x8gb @ 1600mhz PSU : Corsair AX850 I've seen these spikes in the clock graph during FPU testing (currently working on an overclock). The cpu usage isn't dropping so it doesn't look like it's throttling. These spikes are quite random as far as I can see. CPU, NB and HT link are dropping all at the same time. Fiery Posted August 20, 2014 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Please note that AMD processors will not throttle, throttling is used by Intel processors. AMD processors use a different mechanism to protect themselves from overheating. As for the spikes, they could be because the CPU temporarily failed to provide the right CPU multiplier reading, or that the motherboard temporarily failed to provide the BCLK (FSB) clock speed via APIC. Such things could happen when the system is under extreme load (stress). You don't have to worry about such things as long as your processor isn't overheating while running the stress test.
