Hardware failure detected (Asus X99-A)

Hi. I'm running AIDA64 extreme and get hardware failure doing the stress test. Running FPU on it's own gets the error after 2 seconds, running Cache on it's own gets the error after 2 seconds and running memory on it's own gets the error after 5 seconds. Running CPU on it's own is fine and the same with GPU and hard drives. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm using an ASUS x99-a mother board. intel 5820k (not overclocked) 4x4gb memory modules and nvidia 980ti in SLI.

I'd start with:

1) Update motherboard BIOS to the latest one

2) Set memory module timings to a more relaxed setting, dictated by the classic SPD block rather than the XMP (Extreme Memory Profile). If that still doesn't help, then I'd try it with 2T Command Rate (tCR or tCMD) setting as well.

If none of those help, it could still be a faulty memory module, a dying motherboard or a faulty PSU. Not easy to diagnose such issues though :( If you have a chance to borrow a reliable PSU, it would worth checking that too.

Unfortunately none of them worked. One of the games that kept crashing worked when I disabled hyper threading in the bios for some reason (Doom). The PC is only 4 months old so should be able to get it sorted.

Don't know if this is relevant but I got a flashing warning in red when I turned my PC on one time saying the CPU was getting over 2 volts. I quickly turned it off and back on again and booted ok though.

A quick update. I've checked all the memory sims and it fails on any combination of using them. I've got 4x4 meg sims so tried all individually, different combinations together and different slots and no difference so take it I can rule memory out. I'm guessing it will be the motherboard as it's the most difficult one to prove and subsequently replace!

Hi Fiery. I've done a test with intel diagnostic tool. When disabling IMC memory in the test it goes right to the end and passes. Enabling it causes a fail.

Thank you, but please note that it's not possible to diagnose such issues remotely. I could give you a few ideas, but I cannot pinpoint any particular hardware component this way :( I wish I could, but PC hardware is unfortunately too sophisticated, and there are too many variables about hardware components, their compatibility to each other, hardware settings, software settings, drivers, etc, etc :(
