I installed a very recent trial version and decided not to purchase because it kept locking up my computer.  I have a Radeon 6950XT and an 8.8" secondary monitor (HDMI connected).  The computer appears to keep working, but the screen is locked up and I have to tap the power button which causes Win10 to gracefully shut down.  I have tried unplugging my monitor and re-plugging it back in, but it just gives me the frozen display again.

I see many other posts reporting this (or a very similar issue) that only seems to affect AMD GPUs.  I don't want to hand over $60 for software I can't use.  Since the trial is up, I can no longer test new versions myself to find out.

It seems like it's been an issue for years because I found a thread about AMD lockups from 2021.  Is this problem being actively investigated?

The issue you've described only happens on AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series video cards.  On such video cards AIDA64 reads GPU information and measures video card related readings exclusively using video driver (AMD Adrenalin) calls.  Since there're no direct (low-level) video register accesses performed on those video cards by AIDA64, the issue must happen somewhere inside AMD's domain, ie. in their video driver.  What I can suggest you is try the next-generation AIDA64:

Maybe the fact that it's a native 64-bit process makes a difference.  Other than that, we're stuck: we cannot fix a buggy video driver from our end 😞

Thank you for the reply!  How will I be able to check out the new AIDA64?  Will it have a different trial timer when it comes out?  I liked the software a lot.

Yes, you can evaluate AIDA64 v8.00 for 30 days in mid-September.  Until then you can check AIDA64 v7.99 beta which is a preview of v8.00:
