Aida64 Freezes at Scanning Windows Devices Step

When I try to start Aida64 portable version, the splash screen freezes at the 'scanning windows devices' step and the program never starts?  What might be wrong.  I've paid for this product and I would like it to work.

Have you tried to restart Windows? Do you have any special devices connected, like a USB external hard disk drive or such?
