SMART for HDDs: Power-On Time Count shows N/A (HGST HDS724040ALE640)

Why is the "Total Power-On Time" shown as N/A for all HDDs? For all SSDs it is shown in days/hours, read from data of ID 09. Tested with aida64 v5.92, 5.95 and 5.97.

Edit: Beta 5.97.4657 shows the "Total Power-On Time" for an Hitachi HDT721010SLA360, but not for the HDS724040ALE640.

HDDs have different measurement units for the SMART attribute 09, so it's not possible to implement a generic solution that would cover all HDDs out there.  Do you think your HDD measures power-on time in hours?  In other words, do you think 15986 hours which is 666 days would be correct for your HDD?  If you can let us know what the measurement unit for your particular HDD is, we can add that model to the SMART module of AIDA64 in order to show you the remaining drive lifetime information.  If you have multiple HDDs, and you can send measurement unit information for all of them, that would be even more cool :)  In such case don't forget to specify the full model ID of your HDD, like for this case Hitachi HDT721010SLA360.

thank you for your reply. But you have interchanged both drives. Therefore I have edited your edit of the thread title. :-)

CristalDiskInfo shows the data of ID 09 for both Hitachi/HGST drives (HDT721010SLA360 & HDS724040ALE640) as "Total Power-On Time" in "hours".

Aida64 beta 5.97.4657 shows it for the HDT721010SLA360 also in hours. Only for the HDS724040ALE640 (screenshot) it is shown as N/A.

I think that the Hitachi (now HGST) HDT72 & HDS72 Series shows the Data of ID 09 in hours. Now the ID 09 data has changed from 15986 (screenshot) to 16084 since Saturday and the drive is running since June 2016, mostly 24/7 and without power saving. So it's very plausible that the ID 09 data is the "Total Power-On Time" in hours. :-)

Thank you.  We've added your HDS724040ALE640 drive to make sure you get the power-on time count properly in the next AIDA64 beta build.

BTW, generic assumptions about power-on time counter measurement unit may or may not be correct.  We wouldn't guess that, unless we can get concrete data from the manufacturer of the HDD.  In the future we may implement a feature to constantly monitor SMART attribute 09, recognize how it increases its value over time, and make assumptions from there.  It however can also be tricky when the HDD is not always in operation, e.g. when the computer goes to sleep or when the HDD goes to sleep.  So it's quite a tricky business unless there's someone (a human, of course) who can confirm the measurement unit :)

it is the same with another HGST Disk and the latest Aida64 version (6.25).

HUH728080ALE600

The HDD has been running for 1 week (24/7).
So the S.M.A.R.T. ID 09 shows the Power-On Time in hours (170).

This is probably the case with all Deskstar and Ultrastar (Hitachi/HGST/WD) hard drives.

It would be nice if this hard disk could be added as well.

Make sure to upgrade to the latest beta version of AIDA64 Extreme available at:

https://www.aida64.com/downloads/latesta64xebeta

After upgrading to this new version, make sure to restart Windows to finalize the upgrade.
