Platform will Auto Restart when Running AIDA64 Generate Report Item (AMD Discovery)

Hi AIDA64,

I have an issue when I used AIDA64 (v4.20.2800) to create the generate report.

When my platform ran to item8, the platform would auto restart. (Fail rate: 100%)

Could you kindly give me the suggestion to check the issue?

The platform I used is AMD platform.

OS is WIn8.1 Pro.

And, without any other devices on my test platform.

Please let me know what motherboard and CPU do you have in your computer.

Hi Fiery,

The platform we used is AMD Beema Engineering sample.

The CPU is AMD A6-6310.

1) Are you using the Larne-ML platform or the Discovery-ML platform?

 

2) Have you tried it with the latest AIDA64 beta as well?

Hi Fiery,

Update verified result, I have tried to clarify the issue with updated AIDA64 (v2820), but the platform still would auto reboot during the report collected. (at step 7)

And, after I execute the AP, there would popup a warning message.

The warning message was about "unknown motherboard".

Could you also help us to check the issue?

Or, could you give us some suggestion to check which device occur the issue happened?

And, here is the reply about the question above,

1. The AMD platform we used is AMD Beema, due to this is AMD engineering stage, so, we just run the tool on their engineering board.

Please let me know the English name of the page at step 7.  Is it the Sensor page or the Portable Computer page?

 

I understand that your system is based on the AMD Beema processor, but I wonder which platform (which motherboard) is that.  I suppose it is the AMD Discovery-ML motherboard.  Can you please confirm that?

Also, if it's possible, please right-click on the bottom status bar of AIDA64 main window --> Sensor Debug --> ISA Sensor Dump.  Copy-paste the full results into this topic.

For question1, Yes! when our platform collected the report with the "Sensor" page, it would restart automatically.

Then please try to disable the following options in AIDA64 / main menu / File / Preferences / Stability:

 


Apple SMC sensor support

Asus ATKEX sensor support

Dell SMI sensor support

HID UPS sensor support

Koolance TMS-200 sensor support

T-Balancer sensor support

DIMM thermal sensor support

Toshiba TVALZ sensor support

I have tried to disable some test item on my hand, I found the issue was relative with the SMBus setting.

We will try to modify the platform we got from AMD, and re-run the test again.

We'll disable detecting the rest of the SMBus sensors on the AMD Discovery platform.  Maybe that will help you to let you re-enable the SMBus stability option.

May I ask some questions about the test item below:

1. SMBus access through ACPI (Asus motherboards)

2. Low-level SMBus operations (may cause system lockup in rare cases)

3. Volterra VT11xx sensor support

4. RAID SMART support

How could AIDA64 test with these test items?

Those options, except for #2, are not really relevant in your case.  Your issue comes from the fact that the Discovery motherboard raises issues when an application scans for SMBus devices in the device range of 0x28..0x2F.  In the next AIDA64 beta we'll disable the rest of the SMBus-based sensor device scans, and hopefully that will enable you to re-enable the SMBus stability option.

The next beta with the mentioned fix will be rolled out later this week. We're targeting today or tomorrow right now, but it's not 100% yet ;)

Thank you for the info.  Then maybe some other SMBus addresses cause the issue, but it's not easy to debug that remotely.  Would it be okay with you if we made a special debug build of AIDA64 that would let us find out exactly at which SMBus address does the Discovery board crash?

May we know the difference for sensor item between these two versions?

Pass - v2.80.2300

Fail - v4.20.2800

The difference is that AIDA64 v2.80 didn't support AMD Mullins/Beema APUs at all.  It also didn't support the SMBus protocol of the integrated FCH of those processors, so SMBus readouts couldn't cause a lockup there ;)
