Sandy Bridge sound corruption

When I have aida64 open I get odd stutters and sound corruptions.

If I close aida64 and re-run the sound track its clean - no corruptions. This occurs in games to and over headphones as well as speakers. With MP3s and CDs.

I had the issue start of last week and finally reinstalled o/s to get rid of it. The issue came back today as I renewed my aida64 subs (as 1.20 crashes Sandybridge..) and installed 1.60. When i noticed the issue had returned I knew I'd done two changes to the system today - update to SP1 and AIDA64. It just so happens I installed AIDA64 innocently and immediately noticed the corruption.

I'd say the corruption mirrors the ramps of Processor power or HD usage. Something to do with the sensor listening?

Great start to a new license.

I usually run the vista side bar and load aida64 with windows - but this bug means I will not use the software.

On a lighter note so glad I've finally tracked this bug down.

I guess you have a RAID array in your system, connected to an Intel SATA RAID controller. Newer AIDA64 releases implement support for RAID member enumeration on Intel RAID controllers. However, due to bugs in Intel's Rapid Storage RAID drivers, in rare cases sound stuttering may occur. In such cases you need to disable RAID SMART support in AIDA64 / main menu / File / Preferences / Stability. In order to have that option, you need to have the latest AIDA64 beta installed:

After upgrading to this new version, make sure to restart Windows to finalize the upgrade.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but the stuttering is actually happening in Intel's RAID drivers, and not in AIDA64. We of course have notified Intel about this matter, so we're hoping to receive a fixed Intel Rapid Storage driver suite soon.

Cheers for the fast response but one quick query? I'll certainly give what you suggest a shot - at least now I can see the issue is containable.

Could all this be related to the Raid array errors? I have a single SSD o/s drive, storage Raid array of 2 HHD and a single backup HDD.

Seems strange as the error also occured when using the headphones (to rule out speakers) and using a CD playback.

The page file is on the o/s ssd so in that scenario the HHDs in Raid would not have been used? The MP3s do sit on the raid array. Similarly it happens in a game that also sits completely on the SSD.

We've never got feedbacks about actual data corruption due to the sound stuttering issue, so I cannot confirm that I'm afraid. But given the fact that several bugs have already been revealed in Intel RST drivers, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be even worse :)

BTW, from the next AIDA64 beta release the RAID SMART support option will be disabled by default. SMART support for Intel RAID arrays turned out to be a nightmare ;)
