PCH Temp vs PCH Diode Temp what's the difference?

Hi,

I have both these sensor to use in the SensorPanel. They seem to show a difference of 5 - 7 degrees with PCH Diode being the lower one. I know they're both about the Chipset but I don't know what's the difference so I can decide which one to use. Can anyone, please explain the difference?

Thank you!

What processor and motherboard do you have?

Actually I have the same question.  Motherboard is Gigabyte Aorus Waterforce Xtreme, and the CPU is 9900K in my case.

On your motherboard "PCH" temperature is measured by the onboard sensor chip, and so it's not a direct reading coming from the PCH.  While "PCH Diode" is measured using the internal registers of the PCH, and it should represent the most accurate thermal measurement for the PCH.

Well, thank you very much!

Is the source of this information published by Gigabyte, and is it available for general consumption, or is it proprietary to FinalWire?  If it is generally available, I would love to get my hands on a copy.

That's our conclusion based on the methodology we need to use to measure those two thermal readings (PCH and PCH Diode).

Okay, I've got an Gigabyte X570 Aorus an I'm experiencing the same issue. The BIOS reads the lower value (named Chipset in AIDA) to control the PCH fan. But which one is the correct value?

All of them are correct values.
