Compumind
Hi there! Clean install of AIDA64 Trial on 3 XP, SP3 boxes, fully updated configurations. Install went just fine, using your .exe download. When trying to start the app, there is only a small red "64" box in my system tray and then the system is totally hung. Managed to see the Main Screen only once. No choice but to do a hard reboot. When using the version previous to this one, namely 5.95.4500 Extreme, all is perfect. I submitted a ticket, but I would like to confirm with other users. TIA! Fiery
We've checked on a few WinXP based systems now, and all is well. Please let us know a bit more about those systems, e.g. motherboard model, video card type, any RAID controllers present?
Compumind
Hi Fiery - Ran Hardware Diagnostic from 5.95.4500 Extreme. I have attached the file in .txt format and also emailed it back to Support with the previously assigned Ticket Number. Kindly advise. Thanks. Compumind
Just a heads-up - Disabled AV/Firewall and other programs in Safe Mode. Also using Acronis True Image 2016 for backup on demand. Same symptoms as above. Awaiting your response. Thanks. P.S. Others can chime in, too! I don't understand why the new revision doesn't work. You're not forgotten at all We just need to get a similar configuration to yours, install WinXP on it, and check out what could have gone wrong. It takes a bit of time to get that done, especially the "get a similar hardware" issue.
Fiery
We've tested AIDA64 v5.97 on over a dozen of Windows XP based systems, including ones with nVIDIA GeForce 8000 class video cards, P965 chipset, Core 2 processors, but found no issues whatsoever.
Compumind
Hello Fiery - Thanks for taking the time to look into this for me. Very strange indeed. Is there a simple tool that I can run right before starting the new version of AIDA that can help trap the problem? If available, please let me know and I will run it and attach the logs. Compumind
One other thing - What internal changes were made from 5.95.4500 Extreme to 5.97.4600 that might impact this issue in rare cases? Could Norton Internet Security be the cause? I have it on all 3. No luck even in Safe Mode, as previously mentioned. Please keep in mind that I'm talking about 3 XP3 machines here. No problem with Windows 7. Thanks.

No problem with Windows 7. Thanks. We cannot see any changes that would impact legacy Windows compatibility. The strangest thing is that not even the splash screen appears. If it did, we could at least have the last init message displayed on the bottom of the splash screen, and that would lead us to the part of the code that is to blame. One thing you can check is startup logging. Please try the following: 1) Download AIDA64 Engineer v5.97 from: https://www.aida64.com/downloads/latesta64ee 2) Install it, and go to its installation folder using Command Prompt. 3) From Command Prompt launch: AIDA64.EXE /STARTUPLOG 4) After recovering from the lockup, check if you have a file called StartupLog.txt on your Windows Desktop. If you do, please attach the file to a forum post so we can check it out.
Compumind
Hey Fiery - Thanks for the response. Followed your instructions precisely. 5.97 Engineer did come up with a splash screen before the test system locked the same way as in Extreme. The startup seemed to scan almost everything, before hanging on "AIDA64". Here is the output of the StartupLog.txt (after the reboot.): [2018-04-09 15:02:29] <TEST-PC> Startup begin [2018-04-09 15:02:29] <TEST-PC> LoadIcons [2018-04-09 15:02:30] <TEST-PC> SetupDi_ReenumerateDevices [2018-04-09 15:02:30] <TEST-PC> LoadLLKDDriver [2018-04-09 15:02:30] <TEST-PC> LoadDataFile [2018-04-09 15:02:32] <TEST-PC> LoadBIOS [2018-04-09 15:02:32] <TEST-PC> LoadDevices [2018-04-09 15:02:33] <TEST-PC> LoadPCI [2018-04-09 15:02:34] <TEST-PC> BeforeBenchmarks [2018-04-09 15:02:35] <TEST-PC> RoundedCPUClock [2018-04-09 15:02:35] <TEST-PC> ScanAllCPUs [2018-04-09 15:02:35] <TEST-PC> CPUMultiplier(0) [2018-04-09 15:02:35] <TEST-PC> AfterBenchmarks [2018-04-09 15:02:35] <TEST-PC> LoadSMART [2018-04-09 15:02:35] <TEST-PC> LoadRAID [2018-04-09 15:02:35] <TEST-PC> SMARTList_RemoveRedundantEntries I await your findings, thanks. Compumind Thank you. Something fishy is going on around the RAID detection. It would be important to find out what kind of RAID controller do you have in your system, so we can install a similar one. Meanwhile, if you have an AIDA64.INI file present in the AIDA64 installation folder, you can use Notepad to disable RAID detection by altering the following lines in there: LowLevelRAIDEnum=1 LowLevelRAIDSMART=1 Change them to: LowLevelRAIDEnum=0 LowLevelRAIDSMART=0 And let me know if it makes AIDA64 working on your system. It's not an actual solution to the issue, but rather a workaround to at least get AIDA64 to start properly. Thanks, Fiery
Compumind
@Fiery - Here are some details on the RAID Controller. If you need more specific information, please tell me. I will try the temporary modifications to the AIDA64.INI file, as suggested. Looking forward to your findings... Thanks!
Fiery
Thank you. Do you have any RAID arrays configured -- or just have the standalone drives connected to the SATA controller which happens to be working in RAID mode right now?

No. All three systems have only one SATA drive (each) based off the internal RAID controller on the motherboard. I am unsure why it is working in RAID mode - I noticed that in the POST upon boot. How can I turn that off? TIA

TIA Yes, you can switch the onboard SATA controller to AHCI or IDE mode, but it most likely will cause WinXP to fail to boot up completely So I wouldn't touch that option in the BIOS Setup, unless you're ready to perform a complete OS re-installation. Compumind
@Fiery - Now that you have the RAID information, when do you think that a new build of AIDA64 Extreme will be released incorporating these changes? I will also be happy to test a beta build and see if it works and reports properly. Please let me know. Cheers! P.S. The edit of the AIDA64.INI worked, so 5.97 is installed and starts as expected. Compumind
@Fiery - Hi again. An answer to my above post would be appreciated. Obviously, I would like AIDA64 to check what it is supposed to. Many thanks.

Please give us a few more days to build a RAID configuration using an ICH8R RAID controller + WinXP to properly test this issue out. Dealing with old systems (and getting them into our labs) like that is not always trivial

Obviously, I would like AIDA64 to check what it is supposed to. Many thanks. We've tested it with an ICH8DO south bridge in RAID mode, using a standalone SATA SSD and WinXP SP3. AIDA64 works flawlessly with Intel RAID driver Version 11.2.0.1006. AIDA64 starts up with a cca. two-minute delay with an older RAID driver (v8.8.0.1009). It seems to be freezing Windows, but it's just very slow, and things get back to normal after the mentioned two-minute penalty. I recommend you to update your RAID drivers to v11.2.0, and the issue will be gone automatically.
Compumind
@Fiery - Take a look at my (April 17th) post concerning the RAID driver. I can't seem to find an updated one. If you know of a source, it would be appreciated. Then again, these systems will be retired in 4 months. Your help is much appreciated, thanks. BTW - I thought that the DriverAgent Plus and BIOSAgentPlus was included as part of the AIDA software. I feel a bit let down.
